I’ve seen this mountain 100 times and failed to capture the beauty of it at least 1000 times. It’s so close to the location I stay at in Silverthorne, Colorado that I always seem to have either no foreground or a bunch of buildings in the way. This day in the fall was perfect though. Clouds covered the top, which is a sort of bowl anyways but you can’t tell in this photo. The orange stood out in the front like crazy. It was an easy shot to capture. Just point and shoot. It feels like I waited forever for this shot. Finally got it. Off to get the next one.

I wondered around this area for hours looking for different perspectives on these amazing mountains in Colorado. Turns out some of the best shots were the ones like this, not ones where I tried to get things out of the way.

I loved this perspective of the mountains through the trees. With how intense the orange was on the trees I had to snap a few shots with them in focus instead of the mountains to show off how crazy that orange was - think this did the trick.

Photography is based around light. Where it is and what it’s doing to the landscape in front of you. Since it’s so unpredictable, you can look at the same mountain range 100 times and never see something amazing, or see 100 amazing things. This night I just glanced out the window and saw some amazing light. I wasn’t sure at the time what the final photos would look like. I just had to do my best to capture part of what I could see. Just a bit of those crazy rays. Glad I pulled the camera out.

I love walking to this spot. I’ve been to it dozens of times and this is the first view of the mountains when you’re walking on this path. The view gets better but it’s hard to beat that first spot where you can see a view like this one. Lucky me, this spot had some golden colors for me to show off that crazy contrast of that snowy peak (peak 1).

Visited the Castle with my family, it’s new this year but Colorado Mountain towns are famous for creating them over the years. This shot was taken right at the entrance. I held the camera over my head for this shot. The blue of the I’ve.... Incredible!

I was driving from Breckenridge back to Denver and saw this beautiful landscape and pulled over to the side of the road, hopped out of the car and snapped a few photos. I decided to leave this one unedited with the exception of cropping just a tad. The beauty of the mountains (that I had never seen before) was overwhelming, and the way this storm was setting in right below the peaks really made this trip something special.

This photo was taken right at the beginning of a trail called Lily Pad Trail in Silverthorne, CO — you can actually see it here. This trail actually goes at least a mile into the woods. I’ve been up here before and I knew that I just wanted to go right past the trailhead and try to get views of the forest from above. It was pretty windy when I got up there but once the wind died down some I got it in the air and went to take photos of as many trees as I could (not much else over there).

Despite the full moon, we enjoyed tremendous stargazing in Indian Peaks Wilderness, near Nederland, Colorado. We sat for about 1.5 hours to look at Devil’s Thumb (on the left) and the North Star for this photograph. Elevation about 11,000 feet.

I’ve lived in America for over eight years now, but yet, as an Australian who is highly biased towards my own country, I’ve held the naive assumption nothing could rival the beauty of the Aussie coast. I had seen many incredible things in America, but never really put in as much effort as I should have to explore this country. I finally took a trip out to Colorado this summer, and wow - was I wrong. The drive across Independence Pass surely has to be one of the most stunning parts of the country.

The banks of the Arkansas river created a spectacular view of the uninterrupted Milky Way in early summer. This 15 minute exposure captures how dynamic the seemingly still night sky really is.

I had my dad park on the side and watch if any cars where coming as i layed down on the floor and tried to nail the focus. It took longer then it should have because it was around 5am and I had just woken up.

After a month of traveling around Europe, I came back home to this beauty of a sunset. Every time I come back, I can’t help but notice that there’s nothing like Colorado anywhere in the world!
